1. Clicking on X only close the main window.
This is by design. The purpose is to prevent users from accidentally closing down the program. If you want to shut it down completely, simply right-click on the Office Web Sharing icon in your system tray and choose Exit, or use shortcut key ALT+X in main window.
2. I cannot start the Web Server on port 80.
The web server will run on the default port 80 (the SSL server will run on the port 443), if another service is running on this port, the Web Server will not start, you can find the application and shut it down, or choose another port number such as 90, 808, 2000, 5060, etc.
3. I cannot login to the Web Server.
Please ensure that the cookies of your browser are enabled, some proxy servers will block the cookies if you browse with some proxies.
4. Does this software support any other web browsers such as Netscape?
It supports Internet Explorer, like Mozilla, Netscape, Firefox, Opera, etc. It also supports
most download managers which support multi-thread downloading with resuming
capability, such as Getright, FlashGet, Download Accelerator, etc.
5. Does Office Web Sharing support SSL?
Yes, The Secure Edition supports SSL encryption; this makes it almost
impossible for anyone to spy on passwords, bank accounts etc.
6. How to generate a self-issued certificate for SSL Server?
To create your own self-issued certificate, just run the makecert.bat
file in the installation folder of Office Web Sharing. Please see the help file for details.
7. Do I need to install any other servers such as IIS or Apache first?
No, Office Web Sharing is completely standalone and does not rely
on any other programs. You do not need to install any other web servers such
as IIS, Apache and Tomcat on your computer.
8. I was running IIS on my computer; can I run this program on the same computer too?
Yes, of course. You may change the default Port Number of this program.
9. Is there a way to download multiple files at a time?
Yes, Office Web Sharing supports it,
but the browser does not support it. We recommend you to use some download managers
such as flashget, it supports downloading all files at a time (right click on
the html page and select the menu item 'Download all by Flashget').
10. The program cannot send the login information to users, what can I do?
You need to configure the SMTP setting correctly.
11. How can I use it on Mac or Linux?
Office Web Sharing currently can only run on Windows system, however,
from a client side, it is available to any Windows, Mac, Linux or Unix environment.
12. What is the largest file size that I can upload to Office Web Sharing?
It is limited to 9999 MB size, you can comfit it 1 to 9999 MB.
13. Do I need a domain for Office Web Sharing?
No, you don't have to. Just tell the visitors IP Address of your computer. If you have a dynamic IP
address that changes every time you connect to the Internet, You can register a dynamic domain at
www.dyndns.com for your computer.
When you dial-up to Internet, or otherwise, usually you will get a dynamic IP address from ISP.
It means that every time you connect to your Internet Service Provider your computer usually gets assigned a
different IP address. Actually you can use a domain name to replace your IP
address. There is some other software that can associate a domain name to your
dynamic IP address, Such as
www.dns2go.deerfield.com.
14. How to make a backup of Office Web Sharing?
To backup all the data of Office Web Sharing, just backup kvfs.mdb, kvfs.prof and your upload directory.
15. How can I disable guest to login?
To disable guest to login, just clear the 'enable guest to login' checkbox on 'options' page.
16. I don't want to let guest register, what should I do?
To disable user to register, just clear the 'enable guest to register a new
account' checkbox on 'options' page.
17. How to upgrade?
To upgrade, uninstall the old version (the uninstall program will not delete database), install the new version.
